  1. What prompted our curious Laura to find meaning of such a strange word? I can think of a similar word in Arabic “Zakat” which pretty much means the same.

      1. Zakat is where people give away to the needy ones around them whatever is excessive of their own needs. This way the fairness in the whole society is achieved. In absence of state-sponsored social welfare in most third world countries, this individual trait of “zakat” keeps those people going.
